Description

A patient with certain conditions should be disqualified from diving. These same conditions also would disqualify a person for hyperbaric activities.


 

Disqualifying conditions:

(1) pregnancy

(2) chronic conditions which require medication for continuous control

(3) significant osteonecrosis

(4) significant cardiac abnormalities

(5) significant hemoglobinopathy

(6) significant malignancies

(7) chronic alcoholism or substance abuse

(8) history of psychosis or severe mental illness

(9) significant central or peripheral nervous system disease or impairment

(10) history of seizure disorders other than febrile convulsions during early childhood

(11) grossly impaired hearing

(12) chronic inability to equalize sinus and middle ear pressure

(13) cystic or cavitary diseases of the lung

(14) recurrent pneumothorax

(15) significant obstructive or restrictive lung disease
