Description

Anyone who are camping need to properly dispose of her or his fecal waste. Failure to do so can result in spread of infectious pathogens, especially into nearby water supplies.

Requirements for safe human fecal waste disposal:

(1) Feces should be buried at a depth of 20 to 30.5 cm (8 to 10 inches).

(2) Feces should be buried at least 30 meters (100 feet) from any source of water.

(3) Feces should be buried at a spot where

(3a) water drainage will not wash micro-organisms into an adjacent water supply

(3b) water does not pool

If 3 or more people are present then a latrine should be dug, especially if they will be at a site for two or more days. One or two people may want to dig a latrine if they will be present at a site for some time. Perhaps this can be expressed as:

(number of people in party) * (number of days) > 6
