Necrosis of the palate can occur in a number of conditions. The cause needs to be determined before effective management can be initiated.
Conditions associated with palatal necrosis:
(1) trauma
(2) radiation
(3) iatrogenic
(4) bacterial osteomyelitis
(5) fungal infection (mucormycosis, other)
(6) drugs of abuse (cocaine, other)
(7) medication (local anesthetic, bisphosphonate, other)
(8) vasculitis
(9) chemical burn
