A number of conditions may cause a lumbosacral plexopathy.
Conditions that may cause a lumbosacral plexopathy:
(1) diabetes mellitus (may be associated with a polyneuropathy)
(2) pelvic irradiation
(3) vasculitis
(4) pelvic trauma, especially penetrating wounds
(5) abdominopelvic surgery
(6) pregnancy if female
(7) atherosclerotic vascular disease with or without aneurysm
(8) malignancy
(9) coagulopathy with hemorrhage into the iliopsoas muscle (hemophilia, anticoagulation therapy, etc)
