Description

Intraosseous gas may be seen in a number of conditions. The cause can often be determined from history and imaging studies.


 

Differential diagnosis of intraosseous gas:

(1) intraosseous pneumatocyst

(2) osteomyelitis with gas-forming bacteria

(3) lymphangiomatosis of bone (following biopsy or surgery)

(4) scuba diving or exposure to other pressure environments

(5) vertebral collapse following osteonecrosis

(6) trauma or surgery
