Description

The presence of urinary frequency in a child may indicate the presence of an underlying disorder.


 

Differential diagnosis of increased urinary frequency in a child would include:

(1) genitourinary tract infection

(2) infestation with Enterobius vermicularis

(3) bladder overactivity/instability

(4) polyuria including polydipsia, diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus

(5) pollakiuria

(6) drugs

(7) urolithiasis

(8) urinary tract obstruction

(9) pediatric neuropsychiatic disorder (including Group A Streptococcus infection)

(10) sexual abuse

(11) tumor or other cause of bladder compression
