Description

When evaluating a parasite ovum in a specimen the first step is to collect specific data that can help to identify the egg.


 

Data to collect::

(1) shape – round or oval

(2) length and width in microns (micrometers)

(3) 1 vs 2 patterns (inner and outer)

(4) color in unstained stool

(5) presence of an operculum

(6) location of any projection

(7) shape of any projection

(8) radial striations

(9) hooklets

(10) developing structure inside

 

Once this data is collected then identification tables can be used.
