Description

Williams et al graded splenic trauma based on the findings on computed tomography (CT) scanning. This can help separate patients who may require surgery from those who can be managed nonoperatively. The authors are from the University of California Irvine, Torrance Medical Center, and Harbor UCLA-Medical Center.

A patient with Grade A or B splenic injury can be managed nonoperatively.

 

A patient with Grade C splenic injury will require surgery.
