Description

Scheuermann described a type of rigid dorsal kyphosis in 1921. Sorensen proposed criteria for its diagnosis.


 

In the study of Lonner et al, the age range of affected patients was 9 to 27 years.

 

Main criteria for diagnosis: wedging of a vertebra >= 5° in at least 3 successive vertebrae

 

Additional findings (variable):

(1) endplate irregularities

(2) Schmorl's nodes
