Hawkins developed criteria for describing outcome following a fracture involving the neck of the talus.
Parameters:
(1) pain
(2) limp
(3) ankle range of motion (ROM)
(4) subtalar range of motion (ROM)

total score =
= SUM(points for all 4 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum total score: 0
• maximum total score: 15
• The higher the score the better the outcome.

Limitations:
• Some items like limp could be expanded to include mild and moderate categories.
• The increments for scoring the range of motion are uniform.
• It would be nice to be able to translate degrees of motion to the categories for range of motion.
