Duan et al reported criteria for a wide-necked cerebral aneurysm. The authors are from Changhai Hospital of the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai, China.
Patient selection: aneurysm of a cerebral artery
Parameters:
(1) diameter of the aneurysm neck in mm
(2) diameter of the aneurysm dome in mm
ratio of dome to neck diameter =
= (diameter of dome) / (diameter of neck)
Features of a wide-necked aneurysm - both of the following:
(1) diameter of neck > 4 mm ("large")
(2) ratio of dome to neck diameter <=2
Aneurysms were divided into subgroups based on diameter:
(1) < 3 mm
(2) 3 to 6 mm
(3) 7 to 10 mm
(4) > 10 mm
The diagnosis of a wide-necked aneurysm would be skewed towards medium and large aneurysms.
