Description

de Greef et al reported criteria for complete remission for a patient with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The authors are from multiple hospitals in Europe.

Patient selection: AML following definitive treatment

Criteria for remission - all of the following:

(1) <= 5% blasts in the bone marrow

(2) absence of extramedullary leukemia

(3) platelet count >= 100,000 per µL

(4) absolute neutrophil count >= 1,000 per µL

Failure to achieve the cutoff in any of the parameters was associated with reduced overall survival and increased risk for relapse.
