Description

Low flow, low gradient aortic stenosis (LFLGAS) can be diagnosed if certain features are present. LFLGAS is associated with a worse prognosis as compared to aortic stenosis with normal flow.

Criteria for LFLGAS:

(1) aortic valve area <= 1.0 square cm

(2) (resting mean gradient < 40 mm Hg) OR (peak velocity < 4.0 m/s)

LFLGAS is associated with a low stroke volume index (< 35 mL per square meter BSA).

It may be further classified based on the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).
