Description

Hematuria arising from glomerular damage can often be recognized based on findings seen on urinalysis.

Features of glomerular hematuria:

(1) red blood cell casts

(2) moderate to marked proteinuria

(3) dysmorphic red blood cells in the urine sediment that show abnormal size and shape

The presence of all 3 features indicates hematuria arising at the glomerulus.
