Corrected Absolute Reticulocyte Count from RBC Count

= (reticulocyte count, as a per cent) * (RBC)

 

This value can be corrected for the reticulocyte shift, as follows:

= (((percent reticulocytes on peripheral smear) * RBC count) / (reticulocyte maturation time in days, from table below))

where:

• RMT = reticulocyte maturation time

 

No correction is needed when the hematocrit > 45% (RMT = 1).
