Description

Dysgenetic dry eye refers to dry eye associated with embryo-fetal malformations.


 

Types of dysgenetic dry eye:

(1) defect in aqueous glands (absence or hypoplasia)

(2) defect in lipid glands

(3) defect in mucinic glands

(4) defect in lacrimal ducts

 

Defects in aqueous glands include:

(1) alacrimia (absence of lacrimal glands)

(2) dysplasia ectodermica anhidrotica

 

Defects in lipid glands:

(1) first branchial arch syndrome

(2) dysplasia ectodermica anhidrotica

(3) epicanthus-blepharophimosis syndrome

(4) keratopathy-ichthyosis-deafness syndrome

 

Defects in mucinic glands:

(1) aniridia (absence of iris)

(2) Bietti syndrome
