Description

Hypertrichosis with lanugo hairs may occur if certain conditions are present.


 

Conditions associated with acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa:

(1) hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism

(2) anorexia nervosa

(3) porphyria cutanea tarda

(4) paraneoplastic

(5) drug-related

(6) POEMS syndrome (peripheral neuropathy, organomegaly, endocrine disorder, monoclonal gammopathy, skin changes)

(7) acrodynia

(8) juvenile dermatomyositis

(9) malabsorption syndrome

(10) CNS disease or trauma

 

Drugs causing hypertrichosis:

(1) cyclosporine

(2) minoxidil

(3) diazoxide

(4) interferon

(5) corticosteroids

(6) phenytoin

(7) acetazolamide

(8) streptomycin
