Description

El Atat et al listed the possible complications that can occur following a penile fracture. Prompt therapy can often minimize these problems. The authors are from Charles Nicolle Hospital in Tunisia.


 

Complications associated with excessive fibrosis:

(1) penile deviation

(2) annular restriction

(3) refracture (more vulnerable to recurrence)

(4) penile plaque

 

Pain:

(1) pain during intercourse

(2) pain on erection

 

Vascular complications:

(1) gangrene

(2) lymphedema

(3) skin necrosis

(4) aneurysm of a dorsal artery

(5) arteriovenous fistula

(6) spongiocavernous fistula

 

Infectious complications:

(1) cellulitis

(2) abscess

 

Urethral complications:

(1) urethral stricture

(2) urethrocutaneous fistula

(3) urethrocavernous fistula

(4) pseudodiverticulum

 

Functional complications:

(1) erectile dysfunction

(2) priapism (persistent erection)

 

Other complications:

(1) psychiatric disturbances
