Diverticular disease may be uncomplicated (simple) or complicated. Complicated diverticuli often require more aggressive management.
Complicated diverticular disease has one or more of the following:
(1) abscess or phlegmon
(2) peritonitis
(3) fistula
(4) perforation
(5) stricture
(6) obstruction
(7) bleeding
