Description

Certain clinical findings can help to identify a patient with a carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF).


 

Red flags for the diagnosis of CCF:

(1) elevated intra-ocular pressure

(2) unilateral pulsating exophthalmos with chemosis

(3) orbital bruit

(4) unilateral decrease in vision

(5) patient complaint of a “noise in the head”
