Description

LSD (d-lysergic acid diethylamide, acid) in an hallucinogenic compound which may be associated with severe psychological complications in its users.


 

Clinical features:

(1) hallucinations, especially visual

(2) labile mood, ranging from gaiety to anxiety to depression

(3) tachycardia

(4) hypertension

(5) hyperthermia

(6) diaphoresis (sweating) and chills

(7) dilated pupils (mydriasis)

(8) nausea and vomiting

(9) headache

 

Features of a "bad trip" may include one or more of the following:

(1) fear or panic associated with feelings of mental disintegration

(2) distress from re-emergence of past memories

(3) confusion

(4) coma

(5) psychotic reaction (auditory hallucinations can help distinguish psychosis from drug-induced hallucinations)

 

Since most of the drug is made in clandestine laboratories, contaminants may be present.
