Description

Ketamine is a short-acting anesthetic used for humans and animals. It is also an intoxicant and hallucinogen typically used by adolescents and young adults who frequent dance clubs.

When abused the drug may be ingested orally or inhaled ("snorted").

Clinical findings in ketamine intoxication:

(1) feelings of euphoria

(2) inability to move

(3) decreased pain sensation

(4) amnesia for events while intoxicated

(5) hallucinations

(6) delirium at high doses

Ketamine may be mixed with other drugs, resulting in mixed intoxications.
