Description

The pronator syndrome may involve a number of findings related to compression or entrapment of the median nerve at the elbow.


 

Clinical features:

(1) pain in the volar aspect of the elbow (medial aspect of antecubital fossa)

(2) pain in the forearm

(3) pain or tenderness on palpation of the pronator teres muscle

(4) numbness in the volar aspect of the elbow

(5) numbness in the forearm

(6) numbness in the hand

(7) usually muscle weakness is absent or minimal (muscle strength preserved)

(8) tapping over the median nerve may elicit pain or discomfort (Tinel sign)

 

Electrodiagnostic studies may:

(1) be normal

(2) show a conduction delay in the median nerve at the antecubital fossa
