Description

Strasberg et al classified injuries to the biliary tree secondary to laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The authors are from Washington University in St. Louis.


 

Injury Pattern

Type

bile leak from a minor duct that communicates with the common bile duct

A

occlusion to a part of the biliary tree (often an aberrant right hepatic duct)

B

bile leak from a duct that does not communicate with common bile duct

C

bile leak from lateral injury (nick, etc) to the common bile duct (or other major extrahepatic bile duct)

D

stricture, Bismuth Type 1
