Description

Clapper et al classified fractures involving the proximal end of the fifth metatarsal bone. The authors are from the Naval Medical Centers in San Diego, Pensacola and Corpus Christi.

Type

Management

1

heals without immobilization, usually within 4 weeks

2

nonweight bearing for 8 weeks, then weight bearing for additional for 12+ weeks, may require internal fixation

3

plaster cast with weight bearing, usually within 4-6 weeks
