Baumgaertner et al described the outcome following reduction of an intertrochanteric hip fracture. The authors are from Yale University.
Criteria:
(1) alignment on AP and lateral radiographs
(2) displacement of main bone fragments
Alignment on radiographs - both of the following:
(1) normal cervico-diaphyseal angle OR slight valgus in the AP view
(2) less than 20 degrees of angulation in the lateral view
Displacement of the main bone fragments - both of the following:
(1) shortening of lower extremity < 0.5 cm
(2) > 80% overlapping in both AP and lateral planes
