Description

Younossi et al identified a number of factors impacting the quality of life for a patient with cholestatic liver disease. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from targeted interventions to improve quality of life. The authors are from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and McMaster University.


 

Factors impacting the quality of life for a patient with cholestatic liver disease:

(1) degree of pruritis (itching)

(2) progression of liver disease to cirrhosis and its decompensation/complications

 

Additional factors to consider:

(1) fatigue

(2) anxiety and/or depression

(3) adverse drug reactions
