Description

The Child Attitude Toward Illness Scale (CATIS) is a short self-reporting instrument for children with a chronic, physical condition. It provides a systematic assessment of how the child feels about his or her illness.


The questionnaire consists of 13 questions.

 

5 questions have responses progressing from negative to positive

 

8 questions have responses in reverse order from positive to negative

 

Scoring:

• questions are scored on a 5 point scale, with 1 negative and 5 positive

• questions with reverse scoring: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13

• scores are summed, then divided by 13 to give an average score
