Infections of the male reproductive tract may involve the penis, epididymis, testes, or prostate. Diagnosis of infection can be made by meeting one of the following criteria.
Criteria 1:
(1) organism isolated from culture of tissue or fluid from the affected site
Criteria 2 - one of the following:
(1) abscess or other evidence of infection seen during surgery
(2) abscess or other evidence of infection seen during histopathologic examination
Criteria 3 - both of the following:
(1) 2 of the following symptoms:
(1a) fever (> 38°C)
(1b) nausea
(1c) vomiting
(1d) pain
(1e) tenderness
(1f) dysuria
(2) at least one of the following:
(2a) organism isolated from blood culture
(2b) physician's diagnosis of infection
