Description

Viral hepatitis can be diagnosed according to the following criteria.


 

Criteria - all of the following:

(1) at least 2 of the following symptoms:

(1a) fever (> 38°C)

(1b) anorexia

(1c) nausea

(1d) vomiting

(1e) abdominal pain

(1f) jaundice

(1g) history of transfusion within the previous 3 months

(2) no other recognized cause for symptoms

(3) at least one of the following:

(3a) positive antigen test for hepatitis A, hepatitis B or delta hepatitis

(3b) positive antibody test for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C or delta hepatitis

(3c) abnormal liver function tests (ALT, AST, bilirubin)

(3d) CMV detected in urine or oropharyngeal secretions
