A person who gets stuck in a chimney may die in several ways.
Reasons why a person climbs into a chimney:
(1) intoxication
(2) trying to get into a locked house, including burglary
(3) trying to surprise someone (prank, criminal activity)
(4) mental illness
Causes of death:
(1) fall
(2) carbon monoxide or smoke inhalation
(3) thermal burn
(4) asphyxiation (if a person is trapped in a conical area then as the person exhales the person goes down the chimney further, eventually being unable to breathe)
(5) heart attack
(6) starvation or dehydration (if not found for several days)
