Description

A number of conditions can result in an acquired hypogammaglobulinemia.


 

Diagnostic findings

(1) decrease in one or more immunoglobulins

(2) history of normal immunoglobulins

(3) management of underlying disease is associated with increase in immunoglobulin level

 

Causes of acquired hypogammaglobulinemia:

(1) drug-induced (see above)

(2) nephrotic syndrome

(3) protein-losing enteropathy

(4) malabsorption

(5) HIV

(6) congenital rubella infection

(7) hematologic malignancies
