Description

The cardiovascular profile score (CVPS) can be used to evaluate a neonate for evidence of congestive heart failure. The author is from the University of South Florida.

Parameters:

(1) hydrops fetalis

(2) venous Doppler in umbilical veins

(3) cardiothoracic (CT) ratio (cardiac area to chest area ratio) as indicator of cardiomegaly

(4) myocardial function

(5) arterial Doppler in umbilical artery diastolic flow

where:

• TR dP/dt is the change in the pressure over time of the tricuspid regurgitation jet.

= SUM(points for all 5 parameters)

Interpretation:

• maximum score: 10 (normal)

• minimum score: 0
