Calcium gluceptate is the least irritating and can be used for intramuscular injections.

 

Calcium chloride is the most irritating and can cause problems if infused into peripheral veins.

 

Calcium gluconate is less irritating than calcium chloride.

 

Common parenteral formulations:

(1) calcium chloride dihydrate: 1 gram in 10 mL

(2) calcium gluconate: 1 gram in 10 mL

(3) calcium gluceptate: 1.1 gram in 5 mL
