Description

Allawadhi et al used the extent of bone marrow involvement seen on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to stage patients with multiple myeloma. MRI is a sensitive and noninvasive method to determine myeloma tumor burden. The authors are from Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.

Parameters:

(1) total area of bone marrow evaluated by MRI

(2) area of bone marrow involved by myeloma on MRI

percent involvement =

= (area of bone marrow involvement) / (total area examined) * 100%
