Description

A benign tumor of the penis may become large enough to interfere with intercourse. This underlies the need to do a complete genital examination on all men presenting with the complaint of sexual dysfunction.

Benign tumors may include:

(1) lipomas

(2) hemangiomas

(3) large cysts

(4) angiomyolipoma

Consequences of the tumor:

(1) The tumor may interfere with penile penetration during intercourse.

(2) Movement of the tumor may cause pain to the man or his partner.

(3) The tumor may become ulcerated or traumatized.

(4) The tumor may be unsightly.

(5) The man may develop a psychiatric problem (anxiety, obsession, etc).

The tumor may be quite large before the man comes to a doctor to have it removed.
