Jordan et al described a method for measuring neck and associated radicular pain in patients with neck disorders. The study was done in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Neck pain:
(1) present pain
(2) worst episode of pain during the past 14 days
(3) average level of pain during the past 14 days
Radicular arm pain:
(4) present pain
(5) worst episode of pain during the past 14 days
(6) average level of pain during the past 14 days
Each item is scored from 0 to 10 (11 point scale), with 0 indicating no pain and 10 the worst imaginable pain.
Interpretation:
• minimum pain score: 0
• maximum neck pain subscore: 30
• maximum radicular arm pain subscore: 30
• maximum total pain: 60
• The higher the score the greater the extent of pain.
