Description

Baird et al listed certain findings in a young child that should prompt an evaluation for autism. Some of these findings may first be observed in a child 1-3 years of age.


 

Features lacking:

(1) lack of social smile

(2) lack of appropriate facial expression

(3) lack of emotional expression

(4) lack of eye contact

(5) lack of appropriate gestures

(6) lack of looking at others

 

Features poor or impaired:

(1) poor attention

(2) poor social interaction

(3) poor recognition of others, with tendency to ignore

(4) poor at showing objects to others at 2 years of age

 

Preferences:

(1) prefers to be alone
