Description

The ARDS Prevention Scale can be used to predict which trauma patients may be at risk for developing the adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) after trauma. In the original paper patients with high scores were placed on ventilators as prophylaxis against development of ARDS.


 

Note: The score is dated 1983.

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: > 50

• Patients with scores >=10 are considered at risk for ARDS.
