Description

Creemers et al use criteria to identify patients with ankylosing spondylitis who have active disease. The authors are from Nijmegen in The Netherlands.


 

Criteria for active disease in patients with ankylosing spondylitis:

(1) clear need for an anti-inflammatory analgesic drug

(2) 2 or more of the following findings:

(2a) spinal pain

(2b) morning stiffness >= 30 minutes

(2c) chest pain

(2d) pain in both buttocks

(2e) peripheral arthritis

(2f) one or more of the following:

(2f1) ESR >= 30 mm 1st hour

(2f2) C reactive protein >= 20 mg/L

(2f3) serum IgA >= 3.9 mg/L
