Amputation Replantation Criteria for Functional Outcome

Chen Chung-Wei et al used a grading scheme for evaluating the functional outcome after replantation of an amputated extremity.

Parameters:

(1) ability to return to work

(2) range of motion in the reattached limb

(3) recovery of sensation

(4) muscle power

Ability to Work	Range of Motion	Sensation Recovery	Muscle Power	Grade
able to resume regular work	> 60% of normal	complete or nearly complete	grade 4 or 5	I
able to resume some suitable work	> 40% of normal	nearly complete	grade 3 or 4	II
able to perform activities of daily living	> 30% of normal	partial recovery	grade 3	III
nonfunctional	< 30% of normal	none to limited	grade 0 to 2	IV

where:

• Muscle strength is in range of 0 to 5.
