Description

Ray-Coquard et al identified risk factors associated with early death following chemotherapy for a solid tumor or malignant lymphoma. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from closer monitoring and more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple hospitals in France who participate in the ELYPSE Study Group.

Patient selection: starting conventional cancer chemotherapy

Outcome: early death (death within 31 days of receiving chemotherapy)

Parameters:

(1) WHO/ECOG performance status (PS)

(2) absolute lymphocyte count

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 2

• The higher the score the greater the risk of early death.
