Description

Sometimes it is desirable to calculate the dose needed to achieve a certain plasma concentration at steady state. This approach is most appropriate for constant intravenous infusions, where all of the dose is administered into the systemic circulation.

Once the <patient's estimated drug clearance> has been calculated, then

dose of drug to infuse in µg per minute =

= ((steady state plasma concentration in µg/mL) * (patient's estimated drug clearance in mL/min))

where:

• estimated drug clearance = (estimated renal clearance) + (nonrenal clearance)
