The Acute Physiologic Score for Children (APSC) can be used to clinically evaluate critically ill infants and children.
Scoring:
(1) The APSC is based on a scale of 0-4 with a more abnormal result given a higher point value.
(2) Points are assigned for physiologic, chronic health and operative status.
(3) The physiologic status uses 17 variables to cover 7 organ systems.
(4) The APSC is calculated at admission, and then 24, 48, and 96 hours after admission to the intensive care unit
Data Collection:
(1) The most abnormal recorded value in each parameter within the first 4 hours after admission is used for the admission calculation.
(2) The most abnormal recorded value in each parameter during the 24 hours is used for the 24, 48 and 96 hour calculations.
