Description

Lee et al used a daily symptom diary to monitor the quality of life in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. The score can be trended over time to monitor the patient's general status and response to therapy. The study was done at the University College and Middlesex School of Medicine in London, England.


 

Parameters:

(1) feeling sick

(2) vomiting

(3) appetite

(4) pain

(5) sleep

(6) happiness

(7) general feelings

(8) activities

 

These are scored from 1 (normal) to 4 (severe).

 

total daily score =

= SUM(points for all 8 parameters)

 

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 8

• maximum score: 32

• The higher the score, the poorer the quality of life.
